Geometry

You may have heard the 80's and 90's have been coming back. I thought shoulder pads definitely wouldn't come back, but apparently you shouldn't throw them out just yet. The current rising trend seems to be modern takes on geometric shapes in patterns, shapes and structure.

Take a look at some simple, hot geometric looks from OAKNYC

Then there's this dress I found on SVPPLY from Gilt Groupe which accentuates the shoulders. I think we could, in part, owe the rebirth of this trend to Lady Gaga, but this look seems a little more practical.

The following outfits seem to be the best of both geometric worlds, demonstrated in both pattern and shape. Victoria's Secret Angels showed up at the launch of the Incredible by Victoria's Secret bra last Tuesday.

NEW YORK - AUGUST 10: Models Candice Swanepoel, Chanel Iman and Erin Heatherton attend the INCREDIBLE By Victoria's Secret bra launch at Victoria's Secret, SoHo on August 10, 2010 in New York City. (Photo by Theo Wargo/Getty Images)

Heatherton and Iman wear dresses, whereas Swanepoel wears a jumper. They look like they are dressed in exactly what people in the last 30 years of the 1900s thought people in the future would be wearing. And it is a very cute look, might I add. The colorblock look definitely plays up the shapes, right up to the shoulders. More of a throwback: with her killer, peep-toe platforms, Candice Swanepoel looks like she's doing a modern take on the 70's. She could be an Austin Powers girl ;)
